Our first distribution was a success! Big thanks to everyone who helped make it happen!!
We got more than we were expecting, which was a nice surprise. The delivery included heads of lettuce, mixed salad greens, spinach, kale, mixed asian greens, broccoli, rhubarb, chinese cabbage, and pac choi.
For our first time it went amazingly well, but there are a couple of things we can try next week to hopefully make it go a little bit more smoothly…
* We should try moving the pickup times to 4:15 – 7:15. This would allow the volunteers more time to unpack and set up the tables before everyone arrives. Those of you who came right at 4 probably noticed we weren’t quite ready yet.
* Bags! If you have a reusable shopping bag (backpack, basket, cart, whatever), don’t forget to bring it. And if you have any extra paper or plastic grocery bags lying around that you want to get rid of, please bring them next week so we can keep some on hand for members who forget to bring their own. Some folks also brought small produce bags, which was a great idea. Evert-Fresh bags seem to be pretty popular, they are reusable and supposedly help produce last longer.
* We had a bit of a bottleneck while people waited to use the scale. If this continues to be a problem, we can buy a second one. We can also get a couple of pairs of tongs for grabbing loose items out of the bins.
Please feel free to comment and let us know what you think. What worked well at distribution and what could be improved? What did you think of the selection/quality? What have you cooked so far with your vegetables?
We would love to hear from you!
