Samascott Orchards

Samascott Orchards

Samascott Orchards is a family-owned and operated farm that started in the early 1900’s in Kinderhook, New York. Initially a dairy operation, the farm developed into an orchard in the 1960s, starting with a pick-your-own business. Currently, they produce over 72 varieties of apples, with hundreds of varieties of fruits, vegetables, and mixed livestock on 1,000 acres of land.

Samascott does not grow any GMOs (genetically modified organisms). They emphasize the growth of a healthy crop with the least possible disruption to agro-ecosystems and encourage natural pest control through constant scouting, small plantings, diversity, use of cover crops and crop rotation. They do not use any pesticides unnecessarily although we use preventative fungicides for keeping plants free of diseases. Whenever possible we plant disease resistant varieties that don’t require a lot of inputs and we are always looking for new, safer pesticide formulations.

The farm is currently operated by the 4th generation of family members. They plan to do everything to keep the farm, their land and our practices, healthy and safe for the future generations.

Fruit shares poundage will be equivalent or more than what you would get at market value. It IS an apple orchard so you will be getting a LOT of apples, but the share also has included rhubarb, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, pears, and other fruits. Averages share amounts in 2015 were 4 pounds of apples for a single share.
