This week, get to know Leah. You can say hello to her when you pick up your share this week.
Who are you? Leah Anderst
What do you do? I’m a graduate student in Comparative Literature at the CUNY Graduate Center, and I teach English lit at City College and St. John’s University.
Where do you live? In Lefferts Gardens, on Sterling street between Washington and Bedford.
Where did you grow up? All over – my family moved every three years or so. Philadelphia, Lancaster, Northampton, MA, Indiana, North Dakota…
How long have you been a member? This is my second year. I got in under the wire last year when another member moved out of the country half way through the season.
When you do your pickup where are you coming from? Usually from the Grad Center library.
Where are you going to? Home!
What are you never without at pickup? My black and green PLG CSA bag and a few western beef plastic bags.
What time is it usually? It depends on whether I’m getting any work done at the library. I pick up early when I’m frustrated and getting nothing done, later when I’m getting a lot done and staying late.
Who cooks your veggies/fruits? Both myself and my boyfriend.
Who eats them? We both do.
What do you think you use the most? Swiss Chard! Before the CSA, I had never tried it. Now I’m addicted.
What’s your favorite fruit or veggie score? I like the garlic scapes a lot. Just this past week, though, I got one of the biggest zucchinis I’ve ever seen and made two loaves of bread out of it.
What’s the best part of the CSA? Knowing where at least some of our food comes from and supporting a local grower.
Is there a fun fact about you that you would like to share? I took up skateboarding recently. I’m still not very good, but I did make it into a skate video about women skateboarders that was being filmed in Prospect Park my first day on the board!
If you were a fruit or veggie what would you be? Why? Maybe a banana or an avocado, nearly complete foods.
